The population is rising speedily in the upcoming countries, and some advocate that we need to enhance agriculture with GM crops to fulfill the rising food demands. GM crops are Genetically Modified crops, and for almost a decade, debates and discussions are going on between the Government and the Environmentalists, whether to promote such crops or not?

Firstly, this essay will discuss all the pros of GM crop cultivation, and secondly, the following part will discuss the cons of such vegetation.

On the one hand, Genetically Modified crops are helpful in the rapid mass production of crops in a short period. For a clear example, India is the largest producer of genetically engineered BT cotton crops.

This genetic engineering produce maintains the crops for longer durations as it’s not easily vulnerable to pests and insect attacks. These crops can easily withstand adverse weather conditions and show better productivity as compared to the regular ones. For instance, BT orange can be produced now in cold weather conditions too.

On the other hand, environmentalists are against the use of genetically modified seeds usage. According to them, such crops are not healthy because, primarily, they alter the natural DNA process of the organism and later affect the ecological balance and biodiversity of the environment. For example, Australian timber vegetation in an Indian village proved fatal for the bird species.

In conclusion, 21st-century farmers should be educated and guided towards the prudent usage of genetically modified seeds and their environmental effects on flora and fauna.
